Ellis “Bud” Tormondsen




Ellis “Bud” Tormondsen of Tofte, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at Ecumen Scenic Shores Care Center in Two Harbors. He died peacefully with his daughter and son at his side.

Bud was born on May 5, 1922 to Chris and Matelda Tormondsen in Tofte. After his education from Cook County High School, Bud enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Bud became a Sea Marine on the battleship USS Colorado. After his discharge he resumed his career in commercial fishing on Lake Superior.

Bud married Blanche Stepan in 1945 and moved to Tofte to raise his family. Bud later worked as boilermaker throughout Minnesota and the Midwest.

After his retirement, Bud and Blanche enjoyed summer trips to Isle Royale and winter vacations in Florida and Texas. Bud loved feeding his friends the deer and the birds.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife Blanche, parents Chris and Matelda, brothers Roger, Billy, Charles, and sisters, Ivy and Sissy.

Bud is survived by his son, Dale (Rachel) Tormondsen and daughter, Cathy Tormondsen of Tofte; grandchildren Dale Tormondsen Jr. of Tofte, Melody (John) Morgan of Alexandria, Mn and Monica (Eric) Christensen of Stoughton, WI.; great-grandchildren Olivia, Riley, Cambelle, Hayden and Kennedy; sisters Faye (Robert) Coffey of Fridley, and Mary (Jim) Schliep of Grand Marais; brother Roald (Margit) Tormondsen of Remer; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services and burial will be scheduled later in the spring.
