Not everyone has the time and money for a trip to Duluth to purchase a dress to be worn only once. And many people don’t have the patience for the shopping scene. Recognizing this, for the last few years, a group of Cook County residents spearheaded by Courtney Quaife have organized a Prom Dress Swap event.
This year’s Dress Swap will be held at the Cook County Community Center on Sunday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Quaife said girls can bring a gently used dress to swap for a new one. She said, “We ask that all dresses be clean, from non-smoking homes and be in like-new condition.”
If an attendee doesn’t have a dress to exchange, she can receive a dress for a $20 donation. However, Quaife added, “No one will be turned away for the inability to make a donation.”
The money donated will be used to buy more dresses to keep the event going.
Quaife said there are many beautiful dresses in all sizes, as well as some shoes and jewelry, available on a first come, first serve basis. Some of the dresses are brand-new with tags.
“Join us for a relaxing and fun afternoon,” said Quaife.

Cook County High School Prom is Saturday, April 30 and the 2016 theme is “Alice in Wonderland.”
