Brothers Heath and Drew Ekstrom are both golf pros, great guys and both committed to raising funds for Folds of Honor.
On Sunday, September 8, the two teamed up to see how many holes they could play in one day on the Superior National golf course.
“We started at 6:20 a.m.,” said Heath, who is the golf pro at Superior National.
“Drew and I played together for 117 holes. He had to go and then I did another 27 holes. My total was 144. Our combined total of golf holes played was 261.”
With all of the holes played the boys shot a grand total score of 1,140. Drew shot 510 for 117 holes, while his brother shot 517 for the same amount of golf played, giving Drew important bragging rights at family gatherings.
“We took a couple of short breaks, but for the most part we were on the golf course all day. We had great helpers too. Drew’s daughters, Kailey and Shaina drove golf carts and helped us in the morning. In the afternoon Drew’s wife Robin and my wife Leah drove us the rest of the afternoon. My kids Silas, Kajsa and Miles came out for a lap, but of course got bored and went home to play. My last 18 holes I was alone and finished pretty much in the dark at 7:55 p.m.”
When you add up the holes played the two finished almost 15 rounds of 18-hole golf.
“We are both very sore (probably won’t want to golf for awhile), but had a great time and are proud to have raised money for such a great foundation. To date we have raised $7,291 and will still take donations. We will do it again next year.
“Plus, next year we will have an open event for the public to golf in. It will be called the George Nelson – Challenge Cup. Golfers will play in a four-person scramble that will raise funds for the Folds of Honor and the 10th Mountain Division and their foundations.”
Folds of Honor is often played on Saturday, September 7, Patriot Golf Day, a nationwide fundraiser for the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides scholarships for spouses and children of military members who have been disabled or killed while serving the country.
