Over the past seven years, brothers Drew and Heath Ekstrom have raised almost fifty dollars for the Folds of Honor golf program that provides educational scholarships to the families of military men and women who have fallen or been disabled while on active duty in the United States armed forces.
On Sunday, September 11, 2022, Drew and Heath were joined by Drew’s son Luke, and the three-some combined to play 3346 holes on the Superior National golf course.
Heath said the trio started at 6:15 a.m. and quit at 7:40 p.m. Over that time, they totaled 1,609 strokes, accounted for 29 birdies, 169 pars, and made 625 putts. Heath said they lost 43 balls, and each had a shot of whiskey after the 100th hole, and all jumped in the hot tub before going to bed.
Like and Heath each played 117 holes, and Drew played 112.
“We are still taking donations,” Heath said. Adding donations can be sent to this email https:// charity.pledgeit.org/ SuperiorNational.
“We plan to attempt the 100-hole challenge again next year Sunday, September 10, 2023, with the “Challenge Cup” golf scramble that will be open to the public,” Heath said. “It is a fun golf scramble where we raise funds for both the Folds of Honor and the 10th Mountain Division in honor of George Nelson, Jr, who served in World War II with the special army division.
“We had a great time, and thanks to all those that donated and made pledges to the Folds of Honor foundation. Many thanks to our family that helped and followed us during the day; Kailey, Shaina, Leah, Silas, Kajsa and Miles.”
Last year Drew and Heath each played 129 holes to total 258. The brother’s record number of golf holes of 261 was set in 2019. That year Drew golfed 117 (he had to leave to drive to cities for work the next morning) and Heath played 144 holes.
“This is our 7th year. I did 2016 and 2017 myself, and Drew joined me in 2018,” said Heath.
