State Representative Rob Ecklund (DFL-International Falls) was selected by his peers to serve as House Assistant Minority Leader for the 2017-2018 session. As an assistant minority leader, Rep. Ecklund will aid Minority Leader Rep. Melissa Hortman (DFL-Brooklyn Park) and the leadership team in advocating for caucus priorities on the House Floor, in the media, and across Minnesota.
“Right now we need to make sure that we are standing up for working families in every corner of the state,” said Ecklund. “Too many people are struggling to get by because our economy favors the well-connected and the special interests. Workers struggle to find housing near employers, local businesses struggle competing with a global economy that depends on access to broadband, and middle-class families struggle to find jobs that pay a livable wage. We have major challenges ahead of us, but I am looking forward to working with my House colleagues to make Minnesota a better home for everyone.”
Ecklund was sworn into office on January 3 on the first day of the 2017 legislative session.
“It is an honor and privilege to work and serve on behalf of the people of northern Minnesota,” he said. “There is a lot of work to do and a lot of unfinished business from the last two years. But I am ready to work with anyone who shares my commitment to put the needs of Minnesotans first.”
In late December, Speaker Kurt Daudt appointed Ecklund to four committees: Agriculture Finance, Capital Investment, Environment & Natural Resources Policy and Finance, and the Subcommittee on Mining, Forestry & Tourism.
“I am very pleased with my committee assignments; they really do allow me to focus on many of the biggest issues facing Northern Minnesota.”
