In August 2012, the former Northern Light Chapter of Eastern Star merged with the Emera Chapter 160. However, that does not mean that Eastern Star does not still have a presence in Grand Marais. On January 7, the Eastern Star Emera Chapter donated to several local charitable causes.

Tom Hedstrom was the messenger for the Emera Chapter, along with Eastern Star representative Linda Ottis, delivering checks to the Salvation Army, the Cook County Food Shelf and to the North Shore Care Center for its activity fund.

Though Northern Light Chapter in Grand Marais is now merged with Emera Chapter, it has many members in the Grand Marais area, some who still make the trek to the twice-monthly chapter meetings in Two Harbors.

To learn more about the organization and becoming a member, speak to any Eastern Star member.
