Easter road trip

Spring is here but there is a lot of snow in the woods and the lake ice has yet to separate from the shoreline, it could be another year of iced-over lakes on the fishing opener. The sun has been showing itself lately, but the overnight temperatures are cold enough to keep the ground from thawing.

Easter weekend is usually the time we begin seeing significant changes with the lake ice while the spring showers take care of the snow. There have only been a few rainy days in April so far, but the white woods can quickly change into a muddy mess with some precipitation.

We are taking a short road trip to Iowa for Easter weekend where they have already had temperatures in the upper 70s; the kids will feel like we are in Florida. Holiday weekends are never the best times to travel, but we have not been back to see my family since we purchased the lodge and we have decided to get out of town for a short break.

Planning a vacation during the break is very important since we rarely get an opportunity to leave town once the lodge is open. Unfortunately, our breaks do not align with the school’s schedule of breaks, but that is our only option if we want to vacation with the kids.

April is supposed to be our month of relaxation, but instead we have been remodeling the bar and dining room at Raven Rock Grill. It is an ambitious project that can only be done while we are closed, and there is no better time to be closed than the month of April. If everything stays on schedule, we will be re-opening May 3, but that will be announced once we are closer to completing the project.

Have a happy Easter.
