Volunteers “laid” more than 2,300 colorful Easter eggs out on the ground at the Community Center on Saturday for more than 100 children to hunt in the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Kids with their baskets in hand were there early to scout out the locations of the eggs and make a plan of attack. Their plans worked well. All of the eggs were found in about 3 minutes. If only chores were done this fast.
Along with the hunt there were games inside the Community Center, a brunch, and a raffle with some nifty prizes.
Not to be outdone, there was an appearance by the Easter Bunny who took some time from his/her whisker-tight schedule to meet the children and pose for some pictures with families and children.
Proceeds from the fundraiser totaled a little over $1,000 after expenses, said Diane Booth, president of Cook County Kids Plus Foundation and the Cook County Community Center director. Booth said seniors at North Shore Health Care Center filled the colorful plastic eggs with candy and treats and approximately 30 volunteers helped run the games, the hunt, and feed the public.
The money raised will be donated to Cook County Kids Plus, a program run throughout northeastern Minnesota dedicated to improving the well-being of children, youth, and families.
“We had a really good turnout,” Booth said. “I want to thank the volunteers. We had eight students and their instructor from the robotics team help. We gave them some money for their team this year and they agreed to help us with this event. I hope they can come back next year. They seemed like they had a lot of fun and looked cute with their bunny ears as they helped the kids.”
