Easter Bunny pays a visit to Cook County

Although it was colder than a North Pole reindeer’s nose outside for the Easter egg hunt last Saturday morning, it was warm inside the Community Center, especially when it came time to sit on the Easter Bunny’s lap. Wide-eyed children—some for the first time—got to look at and if they were brave enough, sit on the Easter Bunny’s lap last weekend. It was a great day for the community at the Cook County Community Center on Saturday, March 31 as hundreds of children, their parents in tow, took part in an early Easter celebration.

Cook County Community Center Director Diane Booth said about $1,000 was raised for the school’s Snacks N Pack program at this year’s Easter egg hunt, breakfast, indoor skate, and games and activities that were held at the Community Center on Saturday, March 31.

“We do this mainly for the kids and the community, but secondly this also serves as a fundraiser for the Snacks N Pack program,” said Booth.

Arriving early were members of the Cook County High School robotics team. The kids placed more than 3,000 eggs in various areas in the playgrounds area and small parking lot by the hockey rink. At one point a big cold wind came up and blew the colorful plastic eggs hither, thither and yon, but most of the treasured eggs were retrieved and were put in new hiding spots.

Volunteers from the community, Kids Plus, and the CCHS robotics team helped with the breakfast, skating (indoors on the curling club ice), and across the way at the 4H log cabin building the large volunteer staff led the kids in games and activities.

As for Booth, she worked tirelessly in the kitchen, often behind the scenes, always working hard.
