Earl Anderson,
92, Grand Marais, died Saturday, June 22, 2013 in the Cook County North Shore Care Center.
Earl was born April 20, 1921 to Emil and Esther (Winquist) Anderson in Milbank, South Dakota. He grew up and attended schools in the Grand Marais and Maple Hill area. During World War II he served in the Army in the European Theater, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and received numerous honors.
He married Violet Bahrs in 1947 and together they made their home in Grand Marais. Earl was employed as a hardwood lumber grader for Hedstrom’s Lumber Company from his early 20s until his retirement at age 64.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting; fishing, crossword puzzles, reading, and visiting with his children and their families and was an avid sports enthusiast, especially of the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife of almost 49 years, Violet ,in 1996; and sisters Eldora Yerly and Muriel Riebe.
He is survived by his daughter Vianne (Gary) Pederson of Klamath Falls, Oregon; son, Steven (Terri) Anderson of Duluth, Minnesota; grandchildren, Suzie (Troy) Elliott of Greenfield, MN, Daniel Pederson, Houston, Texas, Jessica Anderson, Duluth, Ashley Anderson, Duluth, Staci Anderson, Duluth, and Derek Anderson, Duluth; sisters, Lois (Obern) Staples, Two Harbors and Margaret (Jack) Street, Venice, Florida; brothers-inlaw and sister-in-law, Donald (Jennie) Bahrs, Albuquerque, New Mexico, David Bahrs, Florida, and Dianne (Perry) Pinkerton, Hillsboro, Oregon; great-grandchildren Taylor and Braeden Elliott, Greenfield, Minnesota and Jade Pederson, Klamath Falls, Oregon; and various nieces, nephews and their families
