A lot of happy faces were seen at the annual Enriching Academics through Sustenance (E.A.T.S.) fundraiser at Cook County High School on Thursday, March 8, 2012. Area restaurants and other food purveyors offered everything from Celtic carrot stew to prime rib to healthy chocolate mint smoothies for attendees to savor.

2012 E.A.T.S. Chair Doug Sanders expects the Cook County Schools Education Foundation fundraiser to net about $6,500 from the sale of tickets and silent auction items after expenses of approximately $500. The sale of 141 tickets brought in $3,525, and about $3,475 came in through the sale of silent auction items. Nine of the 150 available tickets remained unsold, but the fundraiser brought in $2,000 more than last year’s event. Many area residents donated items for the silent auction. In typical Minnesota fashion, one bidder wrote a note on the bidding sheet to the bidder before her, apologizing for outbidding her.

The Education Foundation has raised over $70,000 since 2002, and their efforts have helped ISD 166 pay for things like the 4th grade mural project on the Cook County Co-Op wall, a visit by the giant Earth Adventure Balloon globe, stability balls to help 2nd graders sit in a healthy way, a visit by the Science Museum of Minnesota, robotics and Future City competitions, a 6th grade visit to Junior Achievement’s BIZtown, a CCHS band trip to the Chicago Heritage Music Festival, and Career Day.
