A noontime performance by members of the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra is scheduled at the Grand Marais Public Library on Thursday, May 11.
This group will feature the UMD Faculty Wind Quintet, comprised of Paula Gudmundson on flute, Laurie Van Brunt on oboe, Theodore Schoen on clarinet, Jefferson Campbell on bassoon, and Jill Pospisil on horn. The program is to be a variety of classical pieces.
The UMD Faculty Wind Quintet performs many concerts each year in Weber Hall on the University of Minnesota Duluth campus and throughout northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. An important part of the musical community, members of the quintet perform regularly with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of the North, and the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra as well as with ensembles nationally and internationally.
The quintet also does outreach concerts and masterclasses at area schools, Honor Band events, and are faculty members at the annual UMD North Shore Summer Music Experience, a weeklong camp for high school students.
This concert at the library is funded by a grant from the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation, and is the third of several lunchtime performances to be offered in the library through the spring. The final performance is scheduled for May 25.
