Duluth Mayor Don Ness announced in October 2014 that he would not be running for reelection. His path to mayor and his time in office was interesting, sometimes controversial, but always entertaining, something that isn’t always the case in politics.

Ness is now venturing into the self-publishing world, chronicling his journey from a 25-year-old city councilor to a threeterm mayor beginning at age 40. The book Hillsider: Snapshots of a Curious Political Journey, is a 300- page, full-color book featuring hundreds of photos and original art by local artists.

In a quick book tour to get things started, Ness is traveling up the shore to Grand Marais. At press time he will be at Voyageur Brewing Company on Thursday. With him for moral support and good times is the band his brother performs with, The Boomchucks.

On Friday, September 18, Ness will be at the Lake Superior Trading Post from 1-3 p.m. to read from Hillsider and he will be available to sign copies.
