Congratulations must be extended to Alessandra (Ali) Duclos, the Lutsen log roller who won her fourth straight amateur log rolling world championship at the 61st the Hayward, Wisconsin Lumberjack World Championships (LWC).
Ali was the lone competitor from Cook County competing this year. Normally there is a team of kids from Cook County who train together and travel to log rolling tournaments, but the COVID-19 pandemic ended all practice at the YMCA and all the meets last year were cancelled.
With the win Ali has become the 2021 U17 Girls World Champion.
The lumberjack competition was held July 29-31 at the Lumberjack Bowl in Hayward. The LWC features international competition competing in sawing, chopping, boom running, speed-climbing, log rolling, and more. Top professionals and amateurs showcase their abilities at the LWC.
Sylvia Duclos, Ali’s mom said, “We are very proud of her to overcome a tough COVID year and with no competitions and practices and come back this year as the world champion in her age division. She is only 15 years old but has shown that giving up is not an option. She plans to move forward and advance to semi pro and professional level in the future. We can’t wait to see what else she can accomplish.”
