North Shore Roller Alley Duclos (left) sets up her competitor for a fall at the indoor nationals. The first to win three out of five falls wins the match. Contestants start out with large diameter logs. After one minute, if no one has accumulated three falls, competitors go to a smaller log and roll for two minutes. Championship rollers like Alley can get to a five log—the smallest diameter log made for competitions. Those matches can go for 20 minutes, testing endurance, balance, and willpower of the participants.
Once again the Hudson, Wisconsin YMCA was the site of the United States Log Rolling Association (USLRA) November 11 national amateur log rolling tournament.
Representing the Cook County YMCA North Shore Rollers at the tournament was Alessandra (Alley) Duclos, who had had tremendous success rolling in the U10 girls’ division. Once again Allesandra had a magnificent meet, and placed second at Nationals.
At the end of the tournament USLRA 2017 Super Series awards were given out to the top three finishers in each age division. Points are awarded for places earned in USLRA sanctioned meets, with an athlete needing to attend at least five meets to be eligible for an award. Based on that criteria, Alessandra was awarded the second place award in the U10 girls’ division.
This year Taylor Everson finished ninth and Alexis Plummer 11th in the very competitive U10 Girls’ Super Series.
Paige Everson ended her season in fifth place in the U17 Girls’ field and Dominick Wilson placed seventh among the boys’ U17 competitors in the Super Series.
Bear Atkinson of Clearwater Lake and Stillwater, Minnesota placed third in the U7 co-ed division with Grand Marais roller Garrett Plummer placing sixth in the U7 co-ed field.
