A Grand Portage woman was arrested after a passerby noticed her sleeping in her car in the Artist’s Point parking lot, became concerned, and contacted Cook County Law Enforcement at 9:42 a.m. on Tuesday, August 28. A Sheriff Deputy investigated and Chelsey Lynn Sorenson, 19, was found in her vehicle “confused and disoriented.”
When the deputy asked Sorenson to step out of the vehicle, he noticed drug paraphernalia in the car. Sorenson failed a field sobriety test and according to court documents, the deputy found probable cause to believe she had unlawfully possessed methamphetamine and marijuana.
Sorenson was arrested and charged with 5th degree possession of a controlled substance, a felony bearing a possible maximum penalty of five years and/or $10,000.
Sorenson was remanded to custody. Her initial court appearance will be September 18.
