A 9-1-1 call to Cook County Law Enforcement at 5:02 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19 reported that an adult male had possibly drowned at the swimming pool at Bluefin Bay in Tofte.
Witnesses reported that Martin Zaremba, 72, of Farmington Hills, Michigan, was in the pool alone and he was bobbing up and down and after the third time he went under the water he didn’t resurface. It is believed he was under water for about one minute.
Other guests, Peter and Patty Bado were in the hot tub and they, with Richard Parrott, a friend of Zaremba’s, pulled him out of the pool and started CPR. The man coughed up some water and started to breathe, but could barely speak or open his eyes.
Tofte First Responders were on scene at 5:20 p.m. and Cook County Ambulance was there at 5:30. Zaremba was transported to North Shore Health by ambulance. He was transferred to a Duluth hospital by medical helicopter.
