Driver skidded on loose gravel

I would like to respond to Highway Department employee Scott Benolken’s letter in the March 7 News-Herald, concerning the young lady who was killed when she skidded into a tree on the Lullaby Creek hill on October 3.

On October 2, one day prior to this tragic accident, I was driving into Grand Marais from Poplar Lake and on that same Lullaby Creek hill I skidded, almost went off the road, on loose-slippery gravel. I did not skid on gravel laid down on the shoulder but actually skidded on gravel that was spilled on the road surface.

It should be noted that my car has good tires, I was not speeding up that hill, I am a decent driver and I certainly know the road well. But I still skidded and there was slippery gravel on the road surface…
