Cook County Law Enforcement received a call reporting a vehicle in the ditch below the water tower in Grand Marais at 9:47 p.m. on June 20. The caller stated that the vehicle “crossed the road and is in the west side ditch.” The caller did not know if the party was injured. Emergency Responders and Sheriff deputies were paged and responded and Scott Edward Michel, 62, of Minneapolis and Grand Marais was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.
Michel was traveling north in a 1993 red Honda Accord station wagon when his vehicle veered across the road and into the ditch.
Grand Marais Fire Department, Cook County Ambulance and Grand Marais First Responders were paged, but when a Cook County Sheriff Deputy arrived on scene, all but the ambulance were cancelled. The ambulance was on scene at 9:59 p.m., but Michel was not transported to the hospital.
