Grand Marais has a new retail offering for shoppers: The Sweetwater Co., a women’s apparel and home decor boutique located in the heart of downtown, at 8 N Broadway.
The Sweetwater Co. will fill a niche in the Grand Marais retail offerings by providing on-trend women’s fashion, athleisure, jewelry, handbags, and other accessories. In addition, The Sweetwater Co. will provide a unique selection of home decor – pillows, baskets, vases, and gift items.
“We are so proud of our product offerings – we’ve spent a considerable amount of time curating a fun, unique, and exciting mix of products for our shoppers! We have a little something for everyone” said Brooke Youngdahl, co-owner.
8 N Broadway is the former home of the 8 Broadway Art Gallery. The building was purchased by Brooke and Mark Youngdahl and Kelsi and Seth Williams in January 2022 and has been in the process of being renovated by Seth Williams’ construction team, SDW Construction, for the past several months.
The store features an open layout, locally milled timbers, a custom shelving system with rustic live edge shelving, arched dressing rooms, and unique light fixtures, among other funky furniture and finishes.
“Our goal was to create a warm, welcoming, unique, and fun environment! We are so happy with how the space turned out; the project was a group effort, and we couldn’t be more excited to open our doors” said Kelsi Williams, co-owner.
The partners have long been interested in opening a retail store, and the 8 N Broadway building provided the perfect opportunity. A two-story building, the first floor will be home to the retail store, and the second floor will provide an additional lodging opportunity for travelers, two nightly rental units dubbed the “Sweetwater Suites”. The Sweetwater Suites will offer full kitchens, modern finishes, and downtown views. The Sweetwater Suites are scheduled to open mid-June, shortly after the opening of the retail boutique.
