Cook County Higher Education and the Cook County Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the holiday season with a Down Memory Lane luncheon, presentation, and open house at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 18 at the North Shore campus.
Gene Glader will present Historical Businesses of Grand Marais with visual images supplied by the Cook County Historical Society.
Glader is a former professor at Bethel College, a former owner and operator of Blue Water Café and Cascade Lodge, a longtime resident of Cook County, and a volunteer for many nonprofit organizations. He has written several books about local businesses including Downtown Grand Marais, a history of Grand Marais structures (2010). He is currently working on volume 2, to be released in 2015. Previous publications include Cascade Lodge: A History of a North Shore Landmark (2010) and Amateurism and Athletics (1985).
