A DANGEROUS PRACTICE: Burning Off Old Paint Makes Insurance Void The practice of burning off old paint before re-painting has become common. Painters blow a fiery blast from their lamps against our houses as we watch in horror. Insurance men are strongly opposed to this method as our houses sometimes catch fire. When a house has been painted over and over again, there is an accumulation of paint on the surface in bunches and blisters. To burn it off is the cheapest and quickest way to get rid of the old paint. The most frequent cause of the necessity for the dangerous practice is the use of poor material. The oil in paint should be pure linseed oil and the white lead should be real white lead, not mineral substitutes.
