A small Cessna that was stolen from Confederation College’s Aviation Flight Management program at Thunder Bay International Airport April 6 led law enforcement agencies on a pursuit that included some time flying southwest over Cook County. CBP and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) planes followed the Cessna from Minnesota, through Wisconsin and Illinois, and finally to southeastern Missouri. The pilot fled on foot after landing the plane on a road about 23 miles northwest of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Authorities said the pilot walked into a family-owned general store, used the bathroom, and sat down at a table to wait for authorities to arrive. The suspect said he was trying to commit suicide and wanted the military planes to shoot him down.
