The county board approved a motion to name the body of water that flows to Lake Superior between Carlson Creek and Flutereed River “Otis Creek.” The name will become official by a federal vote that will take place as early as Sept. 7, five years to the day after Anderson’s death at the age of 86.

Grand Marais city councilors hope to meet next month with representatives of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in an effort to put together a detailed design and cost estimate for improvement of the city’s marina. A recently received letter from Congressman Jim Oberstar states, “I am working hard to get as much money as possible into the stimulus bill. However we are not going to designate projects in the bill. Rather, the money will be distributed to the states and federal agency by formula….Of course, when we take up the Water Resources Development Act later this year…..we will consider project requests for inclusion in the bill.”
