The Cook County- Grand Marais Economic Development Authority (EDA) has agreed to help gather information to determine if it was feasible to construct an events pavilion at the Grand Marais Recreation Park. The Grand Marais Business Council contends that there is “great potential” for economic gain for the community if such a facility is developed. Representative John Gorski told the EDA that an events pavilion would create a place for wedding events, an industry that is already bringing economic benefit to Cook County.

A proposed ordinance that will prohibit parking on some sides of the streets on some days of the week, during some times of the year, moved a step closer to adoption Dec. 31 when the Grand Marais City Council approved the new statute on first reading. Councilors said the city would be lenient with enforcement of the new regulations until residents have time to adjust to the restrictions.

It took about an hour for workers to make the repair; the problem was caused because the blown fuse was old and couldn’t handle the higher load, a city lineman explained.
