The weekend storm created more problems for Independent School District 166 than closed doors on Friday. The boiler in Grand Marais Elementary School went out sometime early Friday evening after custodians had gone home. The strong, chilly wind Friday night brought the temperatures down fast in the school – to below freezing Saturday morning – causing a hot water faucet on the second floor to blow and pour water onto the floor for about three hours. Carpets in two rooms were floating in water and many books and instructional supplies were damaged as well as floors, ceilings, shades, etc. It is estimated that damages could total between $2,000 and $3,000.
