Four people were injured in a roll-over just after 9:30 a.m. Sunday on the Gunflint Trail. All four were transported to the hospital.
After 10 years on the air, WTIP North Shore Community Radio moved into its permanent home on the west end of Grand Marais last weekend. Over the weekend WTIP broadcast out of a temporary studio at its new location on West Highway 61, and by Sunday the station went live from its new studios. The move was completed without any interruption in service.
Seventy-four seniors were treated with all the pomp and circumstance necessary for their commencement send-off at Cook County High School Saturday.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has kicked off a major transportation project to upgrade four miles of Highway 61 in the Cut Face Creek area near Grand Marais. Work planned for the $4.5 million project calls for a daily 12-hour work shift starting at 6:30 a.m. Improvements that will result from the project include a stronger roadway with 12-foot-wide driving lanes, 10-foot-wide paved shoulders and gentle ditch slopes. As part of the project users will realize a remodeled rest area featuring picnic tables, trash, a bench and walking paths.
The recently formed Cook County swim team held its first meet Saturday morning, an inter-squad test featuring seven swimmers who timed well enough to move on to the next meet in Alexandria on June 20-21.

The Food Stamp Program, which begins here July 3, will be explained to food merchants of Cook County in a meeting Monday evening at the courthouse.
Mrs. Elizabeth Lind, 92, formerly of Lutsen and later living in Duluth, died Wednesday in a Duluth nursing home. Born in Sweden in 1876, Mrs. Lind came to America as a young girl and all alone at the age of 15 or 16. She worked on the steamer America until 1928, when the ship sank near Isle Royale.
Friday night found 22 tourist groups registered at the Municipal Tourist Park, the largest number to date this season. About half were from out of state. Some stayed one or two nights, but several parties were here for three days. Many were headed for fishing in Canada.

JUNE 7, 1928
The steamer America struck a rock off Washington Harbor, Isle Royale, Michigan, at 3 o’clock this morning and sunk in a few minutes in 17 fathoms of water. The passengers and crew “took to the lifeboats” and all on board were saved.
George Leng has been appointed as postmaster of Grand Marais, to fill the vacancy caused by the expiration of the four-year period for which postmasters are appointed.
L.P. Hirmer has built a roof over the gas-filling department at the Midway, which adds to the general attractiveness.
C.J. Johnson is making some alterations at the Trading Post.
