The ISD 166 school board appointed Eric Kemp to fill the vacant position on the school board Monday night. Kemp is a resident of Colvill and takes the position previously held by Brian Sherburne.
An overflow crowd gathered at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hovland on Saturday for one of the most joyous occasions in its history: the ordination and installation of Kristin Garey as its first full-time pastor – ever. The beautiful stone church just off Highway 61 has been affiliated with Bethlehem Lutheran in Grand Marais through its 90-plus years until recently when the congregation decided to have a pastor of its own, and on Sunday that dream was fulfilled.

Work crews installed the antennas for community radio station WTIP last week on the towers above Grand Marais. Programming is to begin soon.
A piece of Lutsen history was destroyed by fire on Easter Sunday when the 40-year-old “Happy Thanksgiving” cabin on Cascade Beach Road was burned to the ground.
The hockey boosters in search of local money to build an arena got the cold shoulder from the Cook County school board last week. All they managed to score at the April 20 meeting was a vote of support with no money pledges. In short, they got just about what the county board and city council were willing to give them.

APRIL 25, 1968
Sp4 Michael P. Ross, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ross, Lutsen, has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal for heroism in a battle in Vietnam which took place Dec. 8, 1967. He has been in Vietnam since May 1967 and hopes soon to come home.
Mrs. C.A. Anderson has returned to her motel, the Gladmanor, after being away all winter. Her sister, Mrs. Elmer Peterson of Windom, accompanied her.
Mrs. Albert Helmerson underwent surgery at the local hospital yesterday. She had been in the hospital for tests previously.

APRIL 26, 1928
Oscar Olson was sick in bed for a week, but is on duty again.
Emil Johnson is engaged in varnishing and painting at Jack Scott’s residence at Colvill.
W.T. Rabold of Mineral Center is in town today with curios carved from Cook County wood, which he has for sale.
The Colvill town board is advertising for bids to build a new town hall.
Agnes Julia Nelson of Lutsen died last Monday between the hours of 12 and 1, at St. Luke’s Hospital of Duluth, where she had been ill since the twenty-eighth of January. The deceased was 23 years of age.
Mrs. Carl Carlson entertained 28 guests at their home at Tofte. Five Hundred was played at six tables and Whist at one table. A delicious lunch was served at 1 a.m., and the guests departed about 2 a.m.
