WTIP Community Radio ended a long search for a place to call home when it closed Nov. 15 on the purchase of the building recently vacated by Wilderness Waters Outfitters on Highway 61 west of town. The station has outgrown its current space at the ACA building.
The ISD 166 school board came to the conclusion that it must seek a referendum next fall at a workshop last week. If the school district doesn’t reduce its budget and increase its income substantially, it could face a $1.2 million deficit by 2009- 2010, school administrators warned.

The Federal Communications Commission has granted the new FM radio station in Grand Marais the call sign WTIP. After an extensive list of call letters was compiled and checked for availability, Cook County Community Radio submitted the top five choices, of which WTIP was the first.
Larry Boen again approached the Grand Marais City Council concerning a floating inn and restaurant to be located on the water near Boulder Park. He was asking for the city to grant him permission to sell liquor while moored in the harbor. Although tour boat certification allows Boen to have a liquor license without working through the city, he cannot sell the liquor while moored in the harbor without city approval to do so.

Vandals evidently enjoyed themselves last week by doing considerable damage at the new Scenic Overlook on the dump road. A crew of Title V men had set upright rocks around the planted area as a protection a few days prior. On Monday morning when the crew reported for work the large rocks had been dug out, newly planted trees broken and shrubs pulled up. Previously, grass that was just coming up had been driven over.
Local officials are trying to solve four recent break-ins in Grand Marais. They were reported at the elementary school building, Midway Service, Cobblestone Service Station and at the old Hussey house. Police Chief Joe Jurek stated that the break-in at the school had been admitted to by youngsters. The others, he said, are mysteries so far.

NOV. 24, 1927
Mr. Dahl, of the law firm of Jenswold, Jenswold & Dahl, Duluth, was in town on Tuesday.
Senior Patrol Inspector Thomas Cummins apprehended Herman Anderson, a deserter from the U.S. Army, Wednesday and took him to Duluth where he was turned over to the Army authorities.
The state snow plows are here now and made their first trip out Monday, plowing the road from Two Harbors to Grand Marais. The Two Harbors plow came as far as Tofte and was met there by the plow from Grand Marais.
