Five Ely men and a 16-yearold boy quickly and quietly appeared in a Lake County courtroom Monday— a far different atmosphere than the Aug. 7 rampage they are accused of in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The state law requires every person in charge of a garage or repair shop to report to the police or sheriff immediately, and to the registrar of motor vehicles within 24 hours, any car which shows evidence of having been in a serious accident or struck by a bullet. Such reports may be of great help to the police and sheriffs in their efforts at law enforcement. The reports must be made even if the garage man knows that the owner is a law-abiding citizen. In such cases the reports will be used only for statistical purposes.
