Two of the major forest fires which threatened northeastern Minnesota over the weekend were located in Cook County: one in the Hungry Jack Lake area, and a lesser one west of Grand Marais near Pike Lake. Both fires were brought under control by late Saturday night or Sunday morning. Cause of the fire which consumed over 800 acres of timberland in the Hungry Jack area is said to have been a tree falling across a power line near Clearwater Road. In the Pike Lake fire an estimated 60 acres burned on logging operations.
