U.S. Coast Guard live fire exercises on the Great Lakes have been suspended indefinitely and the Notice of Proposed Rule Making, under which the exercises were conducted, will be withdrawn, according to Congressmen Jim Oberstar and Dave Obey. The exercises would have established 34 permanent water training areas on the Great Lakes for live fire gunnery training. The decision to withdraw the proposed rule means there will be no further gunnery training on the Great Lakes to satisfy non-emergency training requirements unless the Coast Guard first publishes a rule.

By the time the fire department had a stream of water turned on, the building and truck were nearly consumed by the flames. It was demonstrated that the fire department’s hose will reach three blocks.
