It has become necessary to warn once again, our local citizens that when the fire whistle blows it does not mean that all the car owners are supposed to appear to watch the action. A few days ago this did happen again, and if it had been a fire of any size, there could have been a tragedy. The highway was blocked for three blocks, and no help of any kind could have reached the fire location. Cars, motorcycles and people on foot all add to the confusion, and none seemed to care one way or the other what happened. If it becomes necessary, Sheriff Emerson Morris said he will start issuing tickets to every vehicle in the “safety zone” that the highway department sets up.
