If all goes as planned, the Department of Natural Resources could well be one of the centerpieces in Grand Marais’ new business park. The fact is, the DNR commissioner and other agency representatives have had their eye on a spot in Cedar Grove Business Park since a visit to the site last year, Economic Development Authority Director Matt Geretschlaeger said. The agency wants to move from its present location in east Grand Marais along the highway corridor, and the business park location seems like the perfect solution, Geretschlaeger said.
Students, parents and faculty had a great time at the International Fair put on by seventh-grade students at Cook County Middle School this week. In all 25 different countries were highlighted by students with Power Point presentations, maps, music, masks, currency charts and more.

The results of the Cook County lodging tax report for the first quarter of 1996 show close to a 4½ percent drop in total revenues for the three taxing districts making deposits with the county. The city of Grand Marais district took the biggest drop, with the Gunflint Trail district suffering the least percentage of decline.
Tim Waite has been named president of the Cook County State Bank. He is a native of Dodge City, Kansas and has an extensive background in banking.
The Navy Guided Missile Frigate USS Oliver Hazzard Perry will visit the Twin Ports of Duluth-Superior July 10-14. The visit is part of the Navy’s 1996 Great Lakes Cruise Goodwill Tour, and will give the citizens of Minnesota and Wisconsin a chance to tour a modern Navy warship and talk with members of the crew.

The old lighthouse keeper’s house now belongs to the county, which in effect means that it will now be turned over to the Cook County Historical Society for a museum. The deed transaction took place last Wednesday.
Much concern was felt for Joey Wallace, who disappeared from his home at Naniboujou Lodge last Saturday evening and was lost for 3½ hours. He was found by John LeGarde in the Brule Park across the highway from the resort about 1:15 a.m. A large number of people aided in the search. It is believed the boy wandered away in the rush of the dinner hour, and his absence was not immediately noticed.
A long and happy teaching career ended with the close of the school year as Mrs. May Creech retired. She taught mostly in grades 1 and 4 in Grand Marais, and through the years has helped many a youngster over the rough spots.

The foxes that were purchased by the Tourist Park are in good condition and exceptionally tame.
Burt Hart has purchased the Emil Anderson farm in the town of Colvill.
Antoine Philiston died at his home in Chippewa Village last Saturday after a long illness. He was 88 years of age, born on Isle Royale, and came to Grand Marais when but a young man. He took a homestead at what is now known as Chippewa Village, where he lived to the time of his death.
