The Cook County commissioners voted 4-1 Tuesday to place a one-year moratorium on the construction of any new billboards or advertising signs along Highway 61. The limitations were put in place in order to give county officials an opportunity to review the existing ordinance that was adopted in 1994, revise it if necessary and hold public hearings before permanent changes are adopted.

County and federal officials have reached a compromise on a wetlands mitigation issue that will keep the development of the Cedar Grove Business Park on the fast track. The revised plan calls for an additional avoidance of about 76,000 square feet of existing wetlands or more, and provides on-site, in-kind mitigation for the majority of wetlands that cannot otherwise be avoided.
