Residents of Grand Marais were startled to see a not-so-wily coyote strolling around town last week. It was first sighted on Wednesday, hunting in a field beside the U.S. Forest Service across from the Pie Place. It was also seen gamboling around the Cook County courthouse and in yards around the area. Avid photographers followed it around in vehicles while the coyote nonchalantly went about its business. It apparently got bored with Grand Marais because there have been no more reports of sightings.

Representatives from the Chamber were on hand to answer questions about the integrity of a program which charges different rates for members than non-members. A 28-year-old woods worker was killed Monday when a falling tree struck him while working in the Four-Mile Lake area. He wasn’t missed until Tuesday morning, when a search was made for him. Sheriff Emerson Morris, who investigated, said it appeared the man died instantly from the blow on his head.

Tricks-and-treats night in Grand Marais will be on Saturday, not Sunday. Mayor Andrew Johnson issued a proclamation this week designating the change. The reason given was that a dance is being held at the high school for students and the Lions, sponsors of the event, feel it would be more proper to have it on Saturday evening.

Hon. W.E. Culkin and Judge Fesler of Duluth are here tonight to help organize an historical society for Cook County.

J.A. Blackwell hurt his hand in the job press Saturday night, breaking his great finger. Quite a bruise and some pain, but a surgeon’s skill and a little time will heal the wound and mend the bone. Time is a great healer, even of cracked hearts.

The Aug. J. Johnson second hand store has received a breakfast table which will soon be needed by somebody. There are four nice chairs to match it.

There will be no more wood sent out without the money.
