The CCHS Viking girls traveled to Grand Portage on Jan. 30 for a “home” game and won perhaps the most lopsided victory in the history of Cook County when they decimated Fond du Lac by a score of 88-11. Coach Scott Steinbach was at a loss to explain his reaction to it and tried to find something useful in a victory of that kind. “We tried to keep the score down by subbing five people at a time and by using running time for the quarters instead of stopping the clock,” he said. “Then later I told the team to take long shots for practice in a game-type situation, knowing we’d miss most of them, but then we’d get the rebound underneath. What are you gonna do? Tell the girls not to make a lay-up?”
