Cook County’s Board of Commissioners received but did not act on a Dec. 17 request from the Region 7 director of the Minnesota United Snowmobilers Association that the board deny a request to run the I-500 snowmobile race through the county. The group contends that the race has been poorly handled for the past three years, that local law enforcement agencies have serious safety concerns, and that the race has a destructive effect on trails and on recreational snowmobile business.
