The Cook County Hospital Board spent part of its meeting on Dec. 21 looking toward their future needs for services and building design. Two areas have arisen where the board and staff will do more work. The first is the future of the nursing home’s physical plant and how well it meets the needs as models of good care and different styles of living arrangements evolve. The second area of focus is adult foster care and the role that the care center might have in developing those alternatives for aging people who need assistance.

The veneer plant building destroyed in a fire last Fourth of July has been reconstructed. The all-steel building measures 60 by 240 feet and stands on the same foundation formerly used. The concrete floor will have to be replaced. Meantime, applications for shares are still being accepted. Officials said they are within $10,000 of the goal, and there should be no trouble in reaching it.
That beautiful Christmas tree is getting drier every day. The best possible fire prevention is to get it out of the house as soon after the holiday season as possible. Take it to the nearest dump or chop it up in small pieces for your incinerator. Don’t try lighting a match to it whole. It may be so dry it will explode into flames.
