The board of the new charter school that is scheduled to open in Tofte in 2005 will ask ISD 166 to lease the space at the Birch Grove Center for its new school. The Birch Grove Community Center building, which is owned by ISD 166 and houses its elementary school as well as the offices of the Birch Grove Foundation, would be a perfect spot for the new charter school if the school district decides to close its K-5 elementary school, charter school board members said.

The EDA board approved one and tabled a second pending further investigation about the impact. Lutsen Mountains Ski Area was granted permission to use the parking area at the course for heated tents and parking during a winter carnival event. A request to use the clubhouse as a “warming house” was denied. The Village Inn requested use of the course to accommodate lengthier sleigh rides for guests of the hotel. The EDA tabled a motion to authorize the use, saying they need more information about the potential impacts to the course.
