For the three summer months, collections of lodging taxes in all parts of the county were up substantially, reflecting earlier reports of an excellent season for tourism.

Local law enforcement and emergency management officials reported Nov. 15 that progress is being made toward the development of a countywide enhanced 911 emergency response system. Phase 2 begins with entry of addresses on the county map identifying precisely the location of every improved privately owned parcel in Cook County. Then the necessary signage needs to be installed. Following that, phase 3 will include installation of the computers and other electronic equipment at the law enforcement center. The new electronics will allow dispatchers to see in an instant the exact location of any fire, accident or other emergency. The entire project is expected to cost more than $200,000.
