Some Cook County DFL activists, as well as environmental stalwarts, made the trek down the shore but in the main, the president attracted his fans. The president spoke at a rally at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center, making a minor gaffe in referring to residents in Duluth and the “Iron Ridge” – meaning the Iron Range – but he was otherwise a hit with the 7,000-plus crowd in the UMD Bulldogs’ hockey arena in the DECC.

The property owner, however, has expressed concerns about the ditch alignment between the project’s end and Lake Superior.
