Cook County School Board Chair Jane Mianowski will be recognized statewide for her years of working as a school board member. She will be honored at a state leadership meeting of the Minnesota School Board Association in St. Paul. It is a well-deserved award, said Chuck Futterer, school superintendent, who announced the upcoming award at the regular school board meeting. Mianowski was also re-elected to serve as chair of the school board.

The county board voted Tuesday to finalize a deal that will transfer all North Shore Hospital and Care Center property to the Hospital District. County Attorney Bill Hennessy explained that the hospital district, rather than the county, will now own the real estate (about 5½ acres), personal property and equipment on and in the Grand Marais facility. “It kind of just makes sense to do it this way,” he said.

Trout Lake was literally a beehive of activity last Sunday afternoon or at least it sounded like a beehive due to the buzz of the little engines as they propelled snowmobiles and riders around the lake.
