“The county’s had its first meth lab bust,” said Cook County Sheriff Dave Wirt of the Aug. 23 discovery of a methamphetamine lab in a trailer on County Road 7. The discovery came through a tip from a family member who was taking care of the property owned by a Blaine man. A warrant was issued and law enforcement found evidence of a working meth lab inside the locked trailer.

About 30 people attended a public hearing Tuesday to offer their comments and opinions on a proposed countywide snowmobile ordinance. And while there was a diversity of input from the audience, there was just as much difference of opinion offered by members of the county board. The result was that no agreement could be reached on a compromise ordinance that was satisfactory to a majority – three motions were put forth and failed – and the matter was laid to rest for the time being.

On Sept. 2 the county board let a contract for the northernmost part of the reconstruction of the Sawbill Trail. In October another contract will be let for the reconstruction of the rest of the Sawbill Trail. This means that next summer the Sawbill Trail will be under construction from end to end of the old part. Even though the contracts read that traffic flow must be maintained, a system of detours will be installed which will be a lot more pleasant to drive on than the torn-up construction areas.
