I just couldn’t sit by as I read Geri Jensen’s letter in the August 20 Cook County News Herald. As Jeri so aptly put, “God didn’t do it. These were genuine acts of human kindness requiring human effort. Please give credit to whom the credit is due.” Geri was referring to a gathering near Harbor Park that has stirred up a lot of emotions. I would like to say I am a Christian and I applaud the organizers of this gathering.
I want Geri to know that I believe and have faith that she is mistaken and that God did do it! You see, Geri, as Christians, we believe it is only through God and Jesus Christ his son that any of us get up and function each day. It is because of God that we have the compassion, talent, and understanding to be the people we are trying to become. None of us as Christians believe we are perfect or have all the answers. Just the opposite; we are sinful and strive each day to do and be as Christ our Savior would want us to be.
I am truly sorry you were so offended by the religious music. I am sorry you couldn’t enjoy and appreciate maybe for you a new experience and different music. I find it interesting we are to be tolerant of all sorts of people and cultures and ideas, but mention God or Jesus Christ and many people become intolerant and angry. We need to eliminate the double standard.
As a Christian I have faith. Without it and my beliefs, the world and the people in it can become pretty scary. Please know lots of people have overcome addiction and much worse by believing and having faith in Jesus Christ. A confirmation from the 30 people you mention proves what?
I am also sorry you feel being a Christian is a mindless addiction. I can only tell you being a Christian is my salvation and I thank God every day for all my blessings!
God Bless!
