When Cook County Vikings’ Coach Mitch Dorr looks across the gym at the players selected to play on the White All Star squad he will be looking at one of his own kids, Kale Boomer, who was picked to play in the Polar League All Star game.
Both Boomer and Colin Everson will get a chance to display their considerable basketball skills in the Blue-White All Star game, but Everson gets to play for Dorr while Boomer plays on the opposing team.
It’s an honor for all three of them. Coach Dorr was named one of the head coaches for the Polar League All Star game that will be played at Barnum High School on Tuesday, April 2.
Joining Dorr on the sidelines will be Moose Lake/Willow River Head Coach Neil Dickinson.
Two Harbors Head Coach Tom Nelson and Wrenshall’s Head Coach Joel Swanson will coach the White team.
The All Star game is a chance for kids who have played against each other to play with each other in front of college coaches, family and friends in a fun-filled atmosphere. One team will win and one team will lose but all of the kids and coaches will leave with fond memories and some kids will have piqued the interest of a college recruiter. It will be a great night for high school basketball, and one last chance for Kale and Colin to square off against each other like they have since they were kids at open gym.
