Longtime head basketball coach Mitch Dorr submitted his resignation as the boys’ basketball coach at the school board’s Thursday, March 15 meeting.
With his whole starting five coming back and a bevy of good young players coming up, this had to be a tough decision for coach Dorr.
In his letter to the board Dorr, who recently accepted the interim position as principal, stated, “In 1998, I started my high school coaching career as the head girls’ basketball coach. In 2008, I finished as the head boys’ basketball coach. After 20 seasons on the hard-court, having competed in over 450 contests with the most wonderful student-athletes I cold possibly imagine, I am stepping down as head basketball coach at Cook County schools.
“It has been my honor to work with many great coaching colleagues, community members, parents, fans, and most of all…the very talented student-athletes of Cook County.
“Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to impact and form many life-lasting relationships.”
While coach Dorr is leaving the hardcourt, his current plans are to come back as head football coach in the fall. His football team, like the basketball team, returns most of the starters next year and was only one win from going to the state football tournament.
