Doris A. Peterson, 96, passed away following hip surgery on April 20, 2018 at Coventry Senior Living in Mahtomedi, Minnesota.
Doris was born to Albert and Sophia Helmerson at Good Harbor Hill on July 28, 1921. She grew up and spent much of her adult life in Grand Marais. In later years Doris lived in Duluth, Eveleth, and Stillwater but always considered Grand Marais as home.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth; siblings
Margaret Krause, Norman Helmerson, Sylvia Haavisto, Zelda Santwire, and Harry Helmerson; and special friend and companion Louis Marasco.
She is survived by a son James White (Alana) of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter Brenda (Mike) Critchley of Woodbury, Minn.; granddaughters Melissa (Alan) Shaw, Christina Kunkel, and Kari (Ben) Rothrock; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 27 at 2 p.m. with a visitation at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais.
