Dora Myla Oberg Griffith, “Dottie,” died January 27, 2019 at Ecumen Scenic Shores in Two Harbors, Minnesota.
Dottie was born on January 22, 1942 to Roy and Hazel (Evans) Oberg. She attended school and graduated from Cook County High School.
After graduating, she traveled to Washington, D.C. to work as a nanny and an aide for Minnesota Senator Clark MacGregor. She met David Griffith, “Grif,” the father of her three children, in Duluth, where Grif was stationed with the Coast Guard along with Dottie’s cousin. They were married in Falls Church, Virginia and traveled around the country, wherever Grif was assigned by the U.S. Coast Guard.
After moving back to Minnesota, they divorced and Dottie stayed in her Hovland home, not far from where she grew up. She lived there until shortly before going into hospice care.
She helped Mac West in the operations of his logging and construction business.
Dottie was an avid reader and watcher of old movies. She loved the many dogs and cats she had over the years. She enjoyed lunches and adventures with her friends at the Grand Portage Elder Nutrition Program.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Patricia and brother, Bradley.
She is survived by her three children, Darcy, Darrin and Doreen (Nick); longtime companion Mac West; four sisters and two brothers and many nieces and nephews and their children.
A celebration of life will be held in late summer.
