Put your snow shovel away for a few hours and take in the annual Grand Marais Playhouse Community Youth (high school) play, The Quilters.
Based on The Quilters: Women and Domestic Arts by Patricia Cooper and Norma Bradley Allen, the play centers on Sarah and six of her daughters.
Sarah works on her final project, her “legacy” quilt. Each block of the quilt tells a story of the women on the frontier. Sarah and her daughters enact the many characters in the stories and songs that are woven throughout. The audience is brought along on the journey of these women as they go through hardship and joys of life on the prairie.
Performances are March 7-10 and 14-17, Thursday-Saturday with the play starting at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 adults, $5 youth (12-17) and $3 children (under 12). All performances are at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts, 51 W. Fifth St., Grand Marais.
The cast includes Aurora Schelmeske, Abbey Stoddard, Izy Sparks, Elsa Garry, Greta Roth, Bryn Fitzgerald-Wells and Kylie Viren.
Musicians: Kay Costello, Barb LaVigne, and Yvonne Mills.
Directed by Sue Hennessy, music director Karina Roth.
